2024 has been a year full of surprises and events. Even if the world majorly changed during the year, my weekly schedule didn’t, and that meant that I watched a movie every Friday night. This year, I had been into old Hindi movies, featuring actors such as Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Out of the many movies I watched this year, a certain 3 stood out. The first one is Kal Ho Naa Ho, the second is Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and the final one is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Kal Ho Na Ho
The first movie that deeply moved me was Kal Ho Naa Ho, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. This movie has a strong theme about friendship and love. It is a rather touching movie, where Aman (SRK) tries to help Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) fall in love with a girl called Naina. The movie is so touching because Aman also loves Naina, but can’t go through with his love for her because of his doomed illness. This movie truly made me very emotional at the end and had a huge impact on me. I still get nostalgic when I listen to the songs and flashes of this wonderful movie keep tugging at my heart from time to time.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
The second movie that left an impact was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. It is a story about two brothers out of whom one was adopted. They are forced apart when the older brother is disowned by his father for falling in love with a common girl. The younger brother doesn’t know about any of this as he is at a foreign boarding school. When the younger brother comes to find the older brother, he learns that the older brother has established a family. He finds his way into his brother’s home and spends about a month there. All this while he conceals his true identity. Finally, he reveals his true identity and tries to convince his brother to come back. Long story short, he acts like a bridge between the estranged father and brother and they all reunite.
This movie presents the nuances of family life and how the strongest relationships can sometimes snap off due to ego and misunderstandings. It also showcases some endearingly warm and cherishable moments between family members. All in all, it is a rather touching movie.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
The final movie that left a huge impact on me was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. This movie is about youthful love at college. Rahul falls in love with Tina, not knowing that his best friend, Anjali is also in love with him. Years roll by quickly and Rahul gets married to Tina soon after college finishes. But, Tina dies soon after she has a baby. 10 or so years later, the baby learns (through a series of letters that her dead mother had left her) that how her father was also loved by another girl, Anjali. The innocent efforts of this young child come into play when she meets Anjali at a summer camp. Anjali is her instructor and very close to the girl. The child devises a few plans to get the old friends together and in the end, they both fall in love.
This movie has varied emotions of sadness, death, unrequited love and childhood innocence. The cinematography is excellent with exotic locations, and the songs are peppy and boisterous. Although the story made me question certain happenings and time frames, it was an entertaining movie overall.
In conclusion, 2024 has been a really good year. Out of all the awesome movies that I have watched, these three have left a huge impact on my mind. These movies have also given me a deeper insight into the world of Hindi Cinema and I am looking forward to watching many more versatile movies in the year to come.
