I smoothly walked in with the baller. I saw the cheesy, golden and smooth wickets. 3… 2… 1…, I smoothly glided to Rohit Sharma. It was a hit or wicket ball. Bat and Ball clashed. Bam! A wonderful touch wicket on Rohit Sharma about to hit a century. The whole stadium stood up cheering gleefully at the massive victory! And the applause rang from all around…
Welcome to the Story of the Great Great ball of the game on Rohit Sharma. Who else, but I am that ball.
The day I was manufactured was the day I saw the first glimpse of light. My white skin was tattooed with a kookaburra like a photo on my head.
Coming to Light
There were a lot of boxes and I was dropped into one of the wooden boxes and shut in complete darkness. My bally senses tingled. After a two-weeks stuck up in gloominess, I saw a shining wave and soon realized I had reached my ultimate destination. It was a huge green oval with a rectangular pitch of 22 yards (20.12 metres) by 10 feet (3.04 metres) in the centre.
I was thinking more questions than the objects I could see. My ears started hearing something feeble- an encore going around the stadium with the chorus of ‘Rohit Sharma…..Rohit Sharma….’ From the corner of my orby eyes I saw a tall muscular man wearing a helmet ready to take on the ground with his bat. He looked ferocious like a tiger with his thick beard. My box was torn wide open and a huge ray of light arose and blinded me. I passed a few hands and then was put on the green turf. After what felt like hours, I was finally picked up and held by the umpire while the people around started to sing gibberish.
The Game
Then began the game!
I was balled by a tall gentleman named Brett Lee with Shubman Gill taking me at the batting front. After Shubman Gill had hit me around for a few balls, Brett Lee threw me right into the wickets. “Howzat! Out!” Bret Lee cried. With that I saw Shubman Gill walking back in a dejected state. At the other end I could see anger rousing in the eyes of Rohit Sharma as he got ready to play some deadly strokes.
Smashing 4s and 6s!
The score was 89-1. In the 6th over it was Mitchell Starc’s time to shine. The fans were cheering for both teams. The stakes were higher than they could’ve been. Mitchell Starc reversed the swing and Rohit was ready to defend. The fans were looking at me- their eyes traveled with my fast pace, I was the complete centre of focus- A Star! Rohit Sharma touched the ball and Australian fans were in no hope until I swooped my way straight to the wicket. Boom! The most excellent touch wicket. Rohit Sharma could not believe his eyes but he walked back with pride for the excellent batting he had displayed.
While Mitchell Starc celebrated with joy, I, the ball that had taken took down Rohit Sharma, was thrown up and caught and passed around and smothered with kisses and rubbed vigorously till I shone and sparkled like new. Oh! What glory!
After note
I have become a memorable ball.
These days I, the Greatest wicket-taker, rest in the showcased possessions of a mighty cricketer Anil Kumble.
You may be asking how…, well let that be a story for another time!
