Are you someone who is tired of filling their grocery bags with shriveled, frozen vegetables dubbed as ‘organic’?
Are supermarket vegetables really ‘fresh’? Take some time and think about this question. Although supermarkets sell ‘fresh’ vegetables, home-grown vegetables are a much healthier and more valuable choice due to many reasons. When you grow vegetables at home, you know you are choosing the healthier option, they are a great pastime and they also help in meeting my personal goals of sustainable development. Not only this, there are plenty of other advantages as well. Thus, we should all grow our own vegetables.
Health Benefits
It is already known that there are many chronic and severe diseases out there. Yet, have you ever thought of what could be the cures for these diseases? Having to grow fresh organic vegetables can offer a myriad of health benefits against a vast number of cancers. For instance, organically grown beetroots and beet greens can ameliorate the function of the lungs, hence preventing the risk of any related infections. Likewise, the organic-greens provide a rich supply of minerals, nutrients, and vitamins that specifically keep the heart and blood function better regulated. Hence, we should all grow our own vegetables.
Stress Reliever
Stress is a major problem that can occur at any stage. Not only do organically produced vegetables provide health benefits, they also give way to a great hobby- gardening. The care of organic vegetables is known to be a ‘stress reliever’ and can also serve as a great physical workout. So, if a person likes to do gardening, he becomes indulged in this activity and hence forgets all the stress. This can be useful for people who work a lot throughout the day, or even for old-aged people. Therefore, it is extremely beneficial to grow our own vegetables in our backyards.
Environmental Benefits
We all know there are many environmental disturbances such as frequent hurricanes, tornadoes, irregular fluxes in weather patterns, etc. that cause severe destruction to natural landscapes, habitats and the human environment. The destabilization of our natural ecosystems is mainly caused by certain erratic human activities. ‘Vegetables are not only vegetables, but they’re also plants’. Keeping this in mind, by growing our own vegetables, these global issues can be solved as when the more natural things are introduced to our planet, the more stable it becomes in terms of the severity of natural disasters, it holds the soil better and it keeps the air more purified.
Some people may argue that they are already too stressed out for a dearth of time due to their busy daily schedules. Others may say that when supermarkets supply vegetables, where’s the need to put the effort into gardening? Although I agree with both these points, I would once again like to reinforce that growing vegetables can be very beneficial for our mental and physical health. This activity is a great stress reliever and we get 100% organic stuff.
It is therefore clear that growing our own vegetables is beneficial in a variety of ways. It is a healthy activity for individuals and for the environment as a whole. Either in soil or in potted plants, we must try to grow some vegetables to lead a healthier life.
