A Day Without Technology

A Day Without Technology

It was a Saturday morning and I had many plans as to what I would do. But something really strange happened on this Saturday… the reason why I am talking about it.

The moment I got up that day, I found that all the gadgets around me had vanished! No poof, no burst of light, just gone.

Hope or Nightmare?

The only gadget that was left with me was my phone- a ray of hope, right in my hands. I sighed with relief that I had at least one gadget around me. However, the cheerfulness did not last long because slowly, but smoothly, my phone also dispersed in the air like smoke dispersing in the environment. It was intriguing yet horrifying. With that, darkness surrounded me because along with the phone, all the light bulbs also vanished. The only light source was the sun blazing in the sky. It was worse than the most frightful, ghastly and grim nightmare!

Nightmare in Full Swing

Completely befuddled, I went outside the house to check what was happening. All the neighbours seemed to be equally appalled and no one knew a thing about the strange happenings.

“What is happening? Is the world disintegrating? Are we under some alien attack?” Questions were tripping over themselves in my head. However, there were no answers to my novel of questions. Firstly, I checked my house again to see if there was any sign of any kind of gadget. Nevertheless, I could not see any sort of gadget. All of a sudden, a strange fear gripped me. I was alone in the house as my family had gone out early morning to visit the gurudwara from where they had to go to a friend’s place. Because of my laziness I had not accompanied them and now here I was- sick in the stomach and stuck in a scary situation.

I wondered if my family was in the same condition!

Trying not to think too much about them, I focused on myself and my house. Suddenly, from nowhere, a text got projected on my wall.
It read-
As per Government orders, today we are going to observe ‘A Day without Technology’.

Soon, that text also vanished. I felt my heart skip a beat when I read the text because our lives without technology are like our bodies without souls.

The Shopping Experience

Trying not to think too much, I took a bag and went shopping. I bought the groceries and went to the counter to bill my products. I entered what was possibly the longest queue at the grocery store ever! No technology meant everything had to be done by people. After half an hour, my turn finally came, and the people took a whopping 10 minutes to check out my products, count my money and give me the change. Completely exhausted, I went home without any further delay.

When I reached my house, I was feeling very hot. Thus, I quickly went to my room to turn on the AC. But obviously, the AC had also vanished. “Oh no!” I cried out in my mind and fell on the bed sweating badly.

I must have been badly tired because when I woke up, I realized that I had slept for 3 hours. Now, my stomach was growling. Hence, I rushed to the fridge to find some food. Unsurprisingly, the fridge was not there. It had disappeared along with the food in it. I could not believe my ill-luck and for the first time ever I missed my family terribly.

My family finally came back in the evening and they seemed spent out. “Arh, this day is the worst one ever,” my brother shouted. I could see that my parents were also thinking the same way, but they did not want to express it.

Relief, Finally!

We all had spent the whole day being anxious, irritated and miserable. When the clock’s hand struck 12:00, all the gadgets came back in the blink of an eye.

We all heaved a sigh of relief. We had sweated, sulked and not slept a wink the whole day. But now that the gadgets were back, we could cool ourselves with cold water out of the refrigerator, switch on the AC and come alive with our phones beeping with messages.

Thus we finally ended an exasperating day without technology to usher in a bright and cheerful one WITH technology- which is the contemporary NORMAL!
