INTRODUCTION
Many schools offer a different and wide range of subjects. What schools are not thinking is that useless subjects are taking up a massive part of the main curriculum which should be eliminated. I am not talking about new subjects like innovative languages or new creative classes but the old ones like HINDI and S.S.T.
According to me, Hindi has become outdated as English is the nationwide language. S.S.T is another burdensome subject due to so many dates, places etc and not many people use it in their daily life. But, if we were to eliminate these subjects, what would we study?
So, how about adding a few new subjects!
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (GK)
General knowledge is a great way to know different things concerning our surroundings. A lot of kids like me do not know very basic things like the name of the president of India or the states of our country. I would like to replace social science with this subject. The importance of this subject is underrated even though it is very important. Some things that could be learnt or taught in this subject are : States and flags of different countries, biographies of successful people, new innovations, how simple things work and other such things.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
This is a field that gets explored in schools but not very properly. Many times, students are found bunking their classes because they are not interested in particular subjects. In order to stop this, a new activity-based subject should be added. It will catch the students’ attention and help them find their suitable interest areas. Some things that could be included in this subject are:- Art, Music, Medicine, Finance and Architecture. Children from middle school can experiment with the different choices offered in this subject. Children in high school can then go on to specialize in the subjects of their interest. This subject will attract students to school and also prepare them for practical areas of life.
CONCLUSION
These subjects should be taken up in both ICSE and CBSE curriculums. This is not only an interesting idea to increase the knowledge and creativity of students but also to increase the attentiveness of children who are bored with conventional subjects. The exploration of multiple useful subjects can be a great way to introduce innovation in schools which will make the students more aware, skillful and ready to face life.
