Public transport is an important service that people use for work, school and other travels. Imagine public transport being free. It would make everyone’s life easier. You wouldn’t need to pay for the bus or the train that you use, low-income people would benefit and there would be less accidents on the roads. Therefore, I strongly advocate that public transport should be free for everyone.
A Free Facility
Free public-transport will be comfortable for everyone as it would be FREE! It will not burn a hole in anyone’s pocket. Imagine you don’t have to pay for the fuel in your car and you can go around the city for free without having to pay for petrol and insurance. I’m sure you would be really happy! Another reason is that free public transport helps low-income people a lot. Let us assume that a person is earning $1,562 per month. Depending on the distance one has to travel, they might spend between $200- $568 only on transport cost. So, that means they would be spending between 12%- 36% only on travel, leaving them squeezed for resources like housing, food, healthcare etc. Hence, making public-transport free will be an advantage for all people as they can use the money saved for other essential things.
Lowering of Accidents & Stress
There will be a lower chance of road accidents with people accessing free public transport because 95.67% of the accidents on the road are caused by cars. So, if everyone uses free public transport, there would be less chance of car crashes and that would mean your life would be safe and you wouldn’t need to worry about you getting hit by a car. Also, public transport can reduce stress from driving in traffic because public transport vehicles have their own lanes. They will thus avoid the rush on streets and make way for safer lanes with the same number of people travelling in lesser number of vehicles.
Good for Drivers & Environment
Lastly, if public transport is free, it would be good for the drivers as more people will start using public transport like buses, trains, trams, etc. The government will pay the drivers more and even employ some extra ones. All this will lead to the upliftment of weaker economic sections, along with clearing the roads of extra traffic. Therefore, making public transport free can turn out to be an ideal situation. Not only this, but it will also be great for the environment as it will face less pollution due to a decreased number of vehicles on the roads. Thus, it makes the utmost sense to make public transport free for everyone.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if we had public transport for free, all of our lives would get so much easier. People would not have to worry about paying to go to places. It would reduce accidents and rush in the cities and everyone would like to board a public vehicle instead of wheeling out their own cars. Hence, I strongly recommend that public transport be made free for everyone.
