Imagine a lab where tens upon thousands of terrified animals are scattered throughout the many cages crowded together. One by one, the poor creatures are pulled out. Then they are drugged with sharp needles that contain substances that are intended for human use in the long run.
The perfume that you use every day, the sunscreen that you smear on your face, or even the medicine that you take regularly- any of these everyday objects might’ve been tested beforehand on a living animal. This brings us to a pertinent question- Should animals be used for product testing?
According to me, the answer is a BIG NO!
What about other Variables?
To begin with, animal testing is completely unnecessary since other variables can be made available. For many centuries, animal testing had been a way to see if your products were adequate enough to be used by the public. If scientists are capable of working hard to create beauty products for the rest of us, why can’t they create humanoid models so that animal testing won’t be required anymore? Not only this, products can also be tested on humans who are willing to do so, knowing the risks and benefits involved. Surely, any intelligent person will agree that animals need not be sacrificed for things that humans are going to use.
Is it Ethical to hurt Animals?
Secondly, the animals used for testing could be injured, or even worse – killed. Animals feel the same pain, and they have feelings. It disgusts me to know that many animals in the product testing labs lose their eyesight, suffer unwarranted discomfort and others are even rendered handicapped for the rest of their lives. To top it up, many animals are simply discarded or dumped to be killed after the experiment is completed. And the irony is that some people think that animal testing is essential and ethical. They simply do not see animals as living beings. For them, human life is more precious than the life of any other creature. It’s high time that we realised that animals should not be tortured for human comfort. Making our furry friends suffer by trying out our new chemical-filled products on them is utterly inhuman.
Aren’t Animals Different from Humans?
Lastly, animal testing does not give results that are 100% correct. Even human beings have varying body compositions, how can we then say that animals can have the same chemical compositions as humans? After all, why go through all the trouble of hurting and killing animals when you’re not even sure of the results? Animal testing can potentially mislead scientists into thinking that their product can be released to the public just because an animal reacted favourably to it. Most people would agree that this procedure is extremely unnecessary and totally misleading most of the time. Thus, it should most certainly be prevented from continuing in the future.
To sum it all up, animal testing is unacceptable and it must be stopped immediately. It is not worth taking the risk to hurt these animals especially when the results are not even accurate. Additionally, the body composition of an animal is, in many ways, different from that of a human being. Looking at all this information, I strongly advocate that animals should not be used for product testing.
