The AUTOBIOGRAPHY of a Pine Tree

The AUTOBIOGRAPHY of a Pine Tree

Hi! I am a pine tree. 110 years of my life have been lonely in lake Kaindy in Kazakhstan since the Earthquake that turned my fellow trees upside down. This earthquake left me all alone in one small plot of land with water surrounding me. It has been almost 110 years so I do not give it much attention. But the upside down corpses of my fellow trees remind me of the gruesome story every day.

When in the year 1911 the Earthquake occurred, I was left all alone. I saw the trees being ripped apart from the ground turning upside down. The water around me also rose up to a scary level. I was very afraid watching this horrifying event happen. For thirty years I was quite depressed. A lot of dust surrounded the area and I did not get any sunlight to grow in those thirty years. I did not want to exist being the only one that was left of the forest. Some time in the summer of 1946 I could see the light of dawn and that was the first time in 34 years that I had seen the Sun.

With the Sun came the rain, with the rain the dust around me started washing away. The beauty of the clear water and the upside down trees was an amazing sight but terrifying at the same time. The remains of the forest were now mountains surrounding me. The mountains were covered in dust but since the Sun showed high in the sky and water rained, the dust that had settled on the mountains was starting to get washed away.

It was almost around the turn of the century that many tiny saplings started swaying on the mountain slopes. The breeze started bringing messages of hope and joy from my neighbourhood. In the year 2006 I could see long and high Pine trees grow where once there was nothing but dust and grime. I waved at them with excitement and joy with my branches and leaves. More and more flowers and colours kept on getting added on the mountains that surround me.

Today, after about 16 years I still wave to them every day and will continue doing so till the time I am alive.
