The world is a mysterious place. While science can explain most of the things in today’s time, there are still certain things that defy all reason and logic. Certain apparitions, superstitions, complex phenomena, clandestine affairs, etc, have remained unexplained despite everything. They have intrigued humankind to keep looking for the answers behind the questions they raise. While certain mysteries are as old as mankind, others are relatively recent happenings. There are also mysterious episodes that come in spurts and then stop altogether. In this article, I am going to look at three mysteries that I find very interesting.
MH370
It was the night of 8th March 2014. MH370, a Malaysian Airlines plane, was flying through the South China Sea from Malaysia to China. After crossing Malaysia and Indonesia, it suddenly went off the radar and was never seen again. Around 239 people were on that flight, including the passengers and the crew. Even after vigorous searching by various countries, NO debris was found anywhere around the South China Sea.
How could a plane have just disappeared like that?
After further investigation, aviation authorities found that the plane was carrying suspicious cargo (parts for weapons and technology for China), and disappeared right after it entered international airspace. This sounds like an attack, but who would attack an airplane flying over international waters? The mystery continues to this day, as experts have still not found out what happened to MH370.
The Bermuda Triangle
Another mystery that has left the world questioning is the Bermuda Triangle. Just off the coast of Bermuda, located near the southern tip of the US, the Bermuda Triangle encompasses a large area of the Atlantic Ocean. Rumor has it that any ship or plane or other object that goes in the triangle will never come out. The Bermuda Triangle, in reality, has some sort of magnetic field interference which makes many instruments in ships and plane cockpits go haywire, making it very hard to navigate through the triangle. Around 50 ships and more than 20 planes have gone missing here. Although most of these incidents happened before the 20th century, there are stray incidents that still get reported. One example is from 2005, when a plane went missing, without leaving behind any wreckage.
There are many stories around this triangle, with some blaming it on superstition, some blaming it on aliens and many others blaming it on sea monsters that rise up and grab the ships and airplanes. To this day, the mystery of what really occurs has never been fully solved.
The Loch Ness Monster
Finally, a mystery that almost everyone knows about is the Loch Ness Monster. The Loch Ness Monster was a monster that appeared in the lake of Loch Ness in Scotland. The legend of the monster of Loch Ness originated from a 7th century biography of Saint Columba, a missionary, who was said to have confronted a beast near Loch Ness which had been killing people. This myth then got passed down from generation to generation by the locals in Scotland. Over the years, many locals claimed to have seen the monster with their own two eyes, but many other sightings have been found as false, with no supporting evidence whatsoever. These sightings continue to this day, with many sightings in 2021 and 2022. What really lurks in the lake of Loch Ness? The mystery is yet to be solved.
Although there are many intriguing mysteries in the world, it must be noted that many of these are just rumors and hoaxes, passed down through generations. There are many claims for many of these mysteries, which prove that they never existed. Whether or not they existed, it is pretty interesting to think about them. Watching movies, documentaries and other forms of media reports about these mysteries make one wonder about the oddities of the world we live in.
These and many more mysteries will always baffle people like me and I am sure that with the passage of time we will be able to unlock many answers concerning these weird happenings.
