Onward- A Review

Onward- A Review

Onward is a 2020 animation movie brought to the audience by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is a unique story of moving onward from loss and it leaves behind its magic and mystery through a curse that forms the driving force in the movie. Along with this, it has a very adventurous and suspenseful storyline that takes the viewer on a rollercoaster of emotions.

The Storyline

The storyline of Onward is enriched with enchanting and intriguing unpredictability. It is a fast-paced story revolving around two elf brothers, Ian and Barley. In trying to bring back their dead father, they recreate an enchanted curse over the course of 2-3 days. Wistfully, Ian never gets to see his father again but realizes that his elder brother is no less than a father. Running parallel with the main storyline is another theme, that of the love interest between a centaur policeman and their mother, which gets resorted in the end.

My Favourite Character

All the characters are well cut out but my favourite is Corey. Corey is an ancient manticore, presumably a thousand years old which is just middle-age for her species. A funny mix of lion, bat and scorpion, Corey, the Manticore was once a fearless warrior. She ran a mysterious tavern serving the reckless travellers who fearlessly embarked on the strangest quests. But times changed, travellers disappeared and Corey’s tavern was no longer needed. She reinvented herself and the tavern. The once mysterious tavern was converted into a family restaurant with an amiable atmosphere.

The Settings

The settings blend seamlessly with the story and the story would have lacked if the settings were not exhibited, as Romeo is incomplete without Juliet. The settings displayed in Onward are rustic and ultra-modern, as well as that they are kaleidoscopic and detailed. Most of the settings are local, however some, like when Ian and Barley were in Raven’s Point or when they were travelling on a red, crunchy and giant cheeto on the river in the caliginous caves lit up by Ian’s bittersweet staff, are further away.

Onward lingers on in your mind, it is such a story that conveys a lot. This effect takes place when the characters, storyline and settings are well thought of. The characters are very unique with Corey being the most loved, the storyline is awfully good and the settings are horribly perfect. I believe Onward is by far the best movie I have ever seen. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is looking for some light-hearted emotional drama.
