Success is quite a popular word, isn’t it? It’s the word that determines your value in the society. What sort of human beings we are, – our traits, our values, our ethics, our character – all is defined by this one word “success”. Well, but no one actually has a concrete definition of this word.
We start hearing about it the moment we step into this world. “Be successful!” everyone seems to say but no one really tells how or why or what exactly success is! For some, success is taking over their father’s business; for some, it is earning a lucrative amount of money; for some, it is getting a government job while for some it’s just being able to provide their families with four square meals a day. This is it! This word which is so much overhyped ultimately comes across as the capacity to fulfill all materialistic endeavors.
According to society, success is what brings you immense happiness. But, is that all? Even though it brings happiness, it also brings an immense amount of stress and pressure, it makes many people diffident and sometimes this same success takes away their life as well. I feel that if the word ‘success’ wasn’t glorified so much, then people would have actually known how to enjoy and live life.
Just imagine, have you guys ever felt real joys of life? Have you ever seen outside your window and observed the sky? Have you ever heard the melodies of the chirping birds? Have you ever watched a mother cat safely carrying her children from one place to another? Have you ever seen a newborn child’s first smile? Have you ever felt a breeze on your face and stayed still? Have you ever felt the blessed hand of your grandparents that touches your head? Have you ever chased a squirrel? Have you ever let the rain drench you? Have you ever shared your thoughts with your parents over a cup of tea? Have you ever run purposelessly just to feel freedom? These, according to me, are the little acts that make life what it is…
Life is not a blind race to achieve material possessions rather it is being open to all sorts of emotions in every little thing along the way. These emotions and feelings make us a complete human who is not only able to understand himself but also others. Drinking life to its lees and cherishing every little moment without being incessantly obsessed about the thoughts of future, this, according to me is success!
