1.Santa
Santa sits on his bright red chair thinking about all the gifts. “How did they disappear, honey?” says Mrs. Claus as she brings Santa some hot chocolate.
“ I don’t know! I go down to check on Comet and Dasher and suddenly I hear this loud bang and all the elves running around! The last thing I saw was hundreds of yellow creatures running out of our big window and a huge metal claw letting them in!” says Santa as he nervously sweats.
“Oh honey, it’s fine. I’m pretty sure the elves will investigate who the thief and those yellow creatures are” says Mrs. Claus as she slowly hugs Santa.
2. Gru
Gru opens the giant bag of presents. “Woah! Would you look at that!” he excitedly says.
“Iem preaty suare tat tos ghifts aare four children” says one of the minions.
“ Of Course they are for kids you fool, you think I would want a unicorn bicycle?!” says Gru as he digs through the bag.
“aNyThInG IntErEsTiNg ien dere?” asks another minion.
“ Just rubbish. Nothing interesting at all,” says Gru, standing up from his seat and heading towards his bed. He lays on the bed and thinks about all the praises he is gonna get for stealing Santa’s toys. He might even win an award, who knows?
3. Santa
Next morning, Santa and his elves try to look for the thief but as Santa is exiting, he notices the Dreamer Globe. There are only some lights flickering on it. Santa stares at the lights that are flickering, hoping that they wouldn’t die. One of the five lights die. And another one, then another. As they slowly die, Santa loses more hope.
“They’re gonna forget about me won’t they?” says Santa, as he sheds a little tear.
“No mister, don’t lose hope. I’m pretty sure we can deal with this.” says one of the elves as he pats Santa on the leg.
4. Gru
Gru wakes up and sits on his couch, eagerly waiting for something interesting to come up on the news. “Rumours have said that children haven’t received gifts from Santa. I guess the ‘Ho Ho Ho!’ became a ‘Oh Oh Ohh!” says one of the news reporters.
“Heh. They’ll never know it was me. They don’t need to know it was me. If I don’t get the award now, this will mean nothing!” mumbles Gru as he makes his way to the kitchen. He pours milk into a cup and sets out for a walk.
As he roams the snowy streets, he spots a little girl unable to reach the postbox hole.
“Excuse me sir, can you please help me put this letter inside the box?” says the girl as Gru walks by.
“Uhm, me? Hm sure, first time acting kind heh,” he murmurs walking towards the girl. She gives him the card. On top of it is written ‘To Santa, from Claudia‘
“I thought you didn’t believe in Santa anymore because he didn’t give you any presents this year?” says Gru out of curiosity.
“I of course believe in Santa! He is amazing! Maybe this year, Dasher or Blitzen was sick, that’s why he couldn’t have made it. Just because he couldn’t deliver it once, doesn’t mean I lose hope. Santa tries really hard to give presents to people all around the world. It is indeed hard for him to do that. He tries every year to keep us happy and thankfully he gets the job done. But doesn’t he also need rest? I think it’s good he didn’t give us any presents this year, at least let him rest,” says the girl indignantly as Gru listens boringly.
“You know that someone stole the presents right?” he says, hoping that that would make the girl scared.
“ Oh really? Then the person who stole it must be a terrible person,” she says in anger.
“Yeah, they indeed are terrible,” says Gru as a little smile pops up on his face.
“ My mom says that the person who does bad stuff hasn’t lived a good childhood. They grew up doing bad stuff because they were told to, or that’s the only thing that made their parents proud of them. They take their anger and sadness out on other people, that’s how villains are made. I think the person who stole the presents needs a warm hug, not a sentence to jail. After all, they are human too, right?” she says sympathetically as she signals Gru to put the letter in the mail.
Right after Gru does that, she gives Gru a BIG hug. Gru tries to step back but the girl is too quick. She waves at him and runs away, giving him the biggest smile ever. The things that the girl had told him make him think of something. Everything she said was connected to his childhood. Of how he needed to make his parents and community proud by doing stuff. He was scolded, bullied and hated on, just because he was a little soft. “Was stealing Santa’s present a little bit too much?”
Gru heads back home, deep in his thoughts. “Was this too much for just winning an award? Did everyone in the world forget about Santa? If I reveal myself, will I go to jail? But stealing and making other people sad is supposed to give me happiness, what is wrong with me?”
He opens the door, walks up the spiral staircase and stares at his TV. “The news is gonna speak rubbish again buuut I’m still going to watch it,” he says as one of the minions quickly brings him a soda.
“All the children are devastated! What happened to Santa? Is he not giving gifts anymore? More and more people are questioning the person that ‘stole the presents’. Did anyone even steal the presents, or is Santa giving up on Christmas? We can only imagine!” says the News Reporter as Gru switches to another channel.
“Ugh, useless. These presents don’t even contain useful stuff,” sighs Gru as he asks one of the minions, “Should we give it back?”.
“Uhm Iof youa tink about ith, it ish aoill uhp toh youa.” says the minion. “ I aghree whith Jhereemey” says another minion.
“Well I didn’t ask you to agree with ‘Jhereemey’ but okay,” he says as he picks up the bag full of presents. “Let’s go on a Christmas adventure!”
5. Santa
“Honey! Did you find the thief?” says Mrs. Claus as she rushes towards Santa.
“No Honey, searched Albuquerque 5 times, still no sign of the thief”, says Santa as he sadly sits on his chair.
“How did you know where the thief lives?” asks one of the house elves.
“When the yellow creatures were running away, from a far distance I could understand it was the minions. The minions live in Switzerland , Albuquerque. Their owner must have been there too!” He says looking distressed.
“Don’t worry honey, you will find the thief, no matter what it takes” Says Mrs. Claus as she pats him on the shoulder.
6. Gru
As soon as it hits 11 pm, Gru and his minions set off for a journey. Gru climbs his big launching machine and starts shooting out the gifts in all directions. He picks up the gifts from the bag, reads the address, points at the house and launches a minion to that address. As he delivers the gifts, he starts enjoying the whole activity. It becomes fun to launch the minions and see them bounce back like boomerangs after leaving the gifts. The gifts are innumerable! As he turns and twists the launching machine, through the binoculars, he sees beautiful decorations, lively Christmas trees and flickering lights that convey the spirit of Christmas. As the gifts are TOO….. MANY, he fears that it would be the next day when he finishes.
At 4 am, he is finally up to his last 5 gifts. As he reads the third gift, it says “To Claudia, from Santa:”. He recognizes that that was the same girl he had met earlier.
“Can this be the last one to be delivered?” he asks the minion.
“Sure!!?”.
As he comes upon the last one again, it is about to be daytime. He says, “I want to give this present myself please,” as he slowly gets off the launching machine. Gru suddenly feels something he hadn’t felt in a while. True happiness! He feels that little ball of light running around his whole body bringing a certain illumination to his whole being. He feels emotions he wasn’t allowed to feel doing things he wasn’t allowed to do. This random change of heart makes Gru feel happy, the true happiness he was always made to feel ashamed about, the real feeling of gratefulness he had never gotten, the true feeling of love he had been missing for so long.
He slowly creeps into the house of Claudia, places the present down and writes a little note for her, ‘Thank you for believing in Santa and helping me realise my mistakes. Thanks, from the strange man you met on the street’. As he is about to go, he turns back and quietly hurries upstairs, he enters Claudia’s room, gives her a little kiss on the forehead and slowly descends the stairs.
7. Santa
Santa wakes up from his deep slumber. As he heads to check on the reindeers, he notices the Dreamer Globe. Switzerland was blooming with lights! Not a single light out, none of them flickering! His jaw drops all the way to the ground as he tries to find words for this miracle. He looks around and notices all the elves looking as surprised as he is. He runs back upstairs and tells Mrs. Claus about the miracle.
“Honey! All the lights in Switzerland are flickering once again! How could this happen?” He says as he alarmingly wakes Mrs. Claus from her slumber.
“Are you sure you’re not dreaming darling?” She says, half awake.
“No!!!” says Santa, pulling her off the bed and taking her downstairs.
“Oh wow!! God listened to our prayers!! Or maybe you got a miracle working partner, Or maybe this is a true Christmas miracle!!” winks Mrs. Claus as she gives Santa a warm, loving hug.
Still, to this day Santa is confused about how the MIRACLE happened!
