The Internet is NOT a Safe Place

The Internet is NOT a Safe Place

The internet has become an essential part of our daily lives. It has transformed the way we access information, shop, manage businesses and communicate. However, as time has progressed, the risks associated with browsing the internet have become more evident. The web is becoming a dangerous place that has more threatening aspects in contrast to the real world. In this text, we will explore a few of the many factors that are shaping the internet to be a savage place, putting all of its users at risk.

Unhealthy Addictions

Firstly, the internet is the main place where unhealthy addictions begin. When a young student excessively uses the internet, they not only become addicted, but they also waste vital time that could be spent doing something more productive. Additionally, watching too much on social media can also lead to more malicious things being promoted to students, such as online gambling. This may be promoted online by YouTubers, TikTokers and various other sources because they get paid for doing so. Likewise, they may also get addicted to gaming platforms. But, how does all this benefit the viewer in any way? Losing money, getting scammed and wasting time are definitely, not the hallmarks of a safe place!

Online Threats

Secondly, the internet is the place where online threats are most active. The internet gives several opportunities to online threats like hackers, dark web browsers, etc, to use anonymity to their advantage. The undeniable fact is that some people exploit their power to cyberbully to gain the upper hand in an online situation. Research undertaken by Kids Helpline found that children transitioning from primary to high school (ages 11-12) are most susceptible to being affected by cyberbullying and online threats. Almost one in two young Australians have had a negative online experience in the past six months. This information clearly mirrors, why the internet is a dangerous place.

Scams

Lastly, it is where scams are becoming most frequent. Many people are manipulated by scammers by using their confidential details. We have many eager people willing to shop during online sales and many scammers use this to their advantage. They create fake websites, find your personal details and use them to get what they want. Although the internet is very convenient in many ways, we should also try to be more careful when we are online so we can prevent ourselves from being in danger from online scammers.

To sum it all up, the internet is a dangerous place that can harm its users in many ways. From addictive habits to cyberbullying and manipulative scammers lurking, the internet has become a threatening place where cybercriminals can do whatever they desire and cause chaos. Hence, it is high time we started watching our internet habits to prevent these disasters from affecting us.
